Greatness is an act of heroism. It's not being strong, but in the right of strength; and strength is not used rightly when it serves only to carry a man above his fellows for his own solitary glory. He is the greatest whose strength carries up the most hearts by the attraction of his own. because as a human being with a human heart , we must lend a hand and give time to our fellowmen.even through simple things for a need, anything from which you don't get in return but a privilege of doing it.
In spite of modern humanity's defiant attitude ,have you feel like helping? For even though your not, try to figure out Joey A.Velasco, a man with his altruistic deeds, and really a brilliant artist and a businessman.
When I first heared his works i was really amazed as is touch because his deeds was kind a different which could be considered as real hero.Just when he help the street urchins now living "more or less rehabilitated lives," the children prayed for Velasco during the first night of his wake and thanked him "for saving them from the streets.Almost his paintings proceeds went to a foundation that assists this underprivileged children."And He's also noted for his paintings and other artworks that combined Christianity and realism and chose to be called a heartist, for his penchant for depicting social situations with the eye of his Catholic faith. You would really be inspired if you know every aspect of his life and on his journey of helping the needy specially the children.
Undeniably speaking, I was totally shock upon knowing that he died from kidney cancer complications on July 20 this year at an age of 43.
A simple reflection from the painter:
“So, whenever you try to help the poor, you always get back more than you give. You learn the meaning of courage. You learn the meaning of sacrifice; you see the beauty of love. Above all, you feel the strength that comes from faith, and hope, and trust in God. You realize the power of prayer.
The strength of this country is not on the top. It is not in the politicians. It is not in the military, or in the police. It is not in the big businessmen. The strength of this nation is in the squatters’ shacks. Though we do not say it, our real power is in our courageous poor, praying under the bridge.”
His words were really touching, I don’t know, really, but Joey Velasco moved me so much.
